MS confirms 'critical' flaw

A security expert with Trustix AS has found a flaw that affects even patched systems running Windows XP and Windows 2000. The boundary error flaw, which infiltrates systems via Windows Explorer and IE, could be exploited for a buffer overflow and system hijacking. MS has confirmed the problem and is urging customers to install the most recent service packs for XP and Win2k.

Microsoft has made an investment in business intelligence. The company has acquired a small company called ActiveViews, which owns a technology that offers a business view of the data an end user wants to see. This technology should beef up the capabilities of SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services.
MS opens research center in Europe

Microsoft will be able to participate in more European projects now that the company has opened a research center in Germany. The European Microsoft Innovation Center will delve into Web services as well as security, privacy and wireless technologies. MS will work with European universities and private industry to develop projects.

Researchers in the Netherlands wired up some noggins and found that people who watched their peers making computer snafus experience the same kind of brain activity as the people making the mistakes.
