The problem you are running into is that Windows is set up to use
encripted passwords. If you want to use encripted passwords with Samba,
you have to create the /etc/smbpasswd file, and set the Samba passwords
for each user. When using encripted passwords, Samba can not use the
normal password file. The other choice is to change Windows to use
plain text passwords.
In eather case, the first thing I would do is read ENCRYPTION.txt file
that is part of the Samba documentation installed when you installed
Samba. It covers this problem in depth.
