I'm having a problem using `ntpdate' under 7.1, but the same `ntpdate'
invocations work fine under 6.2. The 7.1 and 6.2 machines are sitting
next to one another on the same network, and both are able to access
the internet with no other problems.

The problem I see under 7.1 occurs when I run this command:

  ntpdate <timeserver>

... where <timeserver> is any one of a dozen or so valid
NTP servers.

The error that I always get is:

2 Aug 08:57:52 ntpdate[4512]: no server suitable for synchronization found

Now, before you tell me to try one or more specific timeservers, I
want to point out that this exact, same command works perfectly for
*all* timeservers that I try, when I run it on the 6.2 box sitting
right next to my 7.1 box.

I even copied the `ntpdate' executable from my 6.2 machine to my
7.1 machine and ran that version, but I still get the same error
when I use this 6.2 executable to run these `ntpdate' commands
under 7.1 (trying to access all of the same servers that I easily
can access under 6.2).

I have been searching all over the net for information about this,
and I have seen some vague references to linux kernel problems that
might contribute to ntpd/ntpdate errors. But nothing I found
specifically addressed the problem that I'm seeing, and this is
why I'm posting here.

Do any of you know of any kernel patches or configuration settings
that will enable `ntpdate' to start working for me under 7.1?

Thank you in advance.
