Thanks, but again no joy. I don't have a /usr/libexec/filters directory or an
ifhp file anywhere. I tried appending :9100 to my :lp= line and restarting lpd.
That broke text printing.
I notice all your printcap lines end with \ while mine end in :\. Is this
significant? My /etc/printcap was generated by printconf-gui.
