You need to use the sbp2 module which emulates SCSI devices for firewire.
Caution however since the sbp2 module is known to cause some systems to
"hang" when the module is loaded. There are reports that it is fixed but the
latest CVS files from linux1394.sourceforge.net with kernel 2.4.9 still
cause the problem for me. I was able to get firewire disk working with sbp2
and kernel 2.4.6 using the instructions on the sourceforge pages. Your tape
drive should appear as /dev/st1 (I would think) after the sbp2 driver
recognizes it, though I haven't tried a firewire tape drive. Your best
chance of working is probably to have the drive plugged into the firewire
port before loading the sbp2 module. Use also need scsi support built into
the kernel or configured as modules. Again, be very careful and prepared for
a "hang" when you load the module. My only recovery from this hang is to
cycle power.
You might also want to join the linux1394 mail list and post your questions
there since firewire support is still experimental.
