Update your machine? ;)
There have been 2 updated redhat kernels released for the Enigma 
distribution. Currently it is at 2.4.9-21
Additionally, there are quite a few other updates available as well.

I'm confused. While building your own kernel is fine when the need 
arises, kernel 2.4.9 is available as an rpm from redhat. The current 
kernel is 2.4.9-21. 
Download the packages.
rpm -ivh kernel-{version}.rpm. rpm -Fvh kernel-headers{version}.rpm.
If using grub, rather than lilo, skip the next 2 steps.
Edit /etc/lilo.conf to include the new kernel 
/sbin/lilo -v
reboot, selecting the new kernel.
