Make sure that you leave the space free (unpartitioned).

You also need a root (/) partition.  It doesn't need to be very large
(256-512MB should be plenty).

Install lilo to the MBR, and during the installation, you should see dos
(Win XP) as a boot option.  You can choose which one you want to boot to by
default.

Yes, you can export the vmlinuz file to Win, but it is more complex than
letting lilo do the work.
