I have just setup RH 7.1 and I am trying to ftp from another pc on the same
network to the RH machine. I am getting a "connection refused" message and
can not FTP. I can however logon to the RH machine and successfully perform
an ftp to the localhost. I have searched for a solution on Google, RedHat
as well as other sites and all I can find are partial threads that seem to
mention the same problem but no solutions or other threads with solutions
that don't correct the problem. I have disabled the firewall and checked
the wu-ftpd config file. When I disable the firewall using the "setup"
program the ipchains file in the /etc/sysconfig dir goes away so I assume
that I have disabled the firewall and ipchains. I also restarting the
xinetd service after attempting each solution but that doesn't help either.
There is nothing in the hosts.allow or hosts.deny files, although I did try
to add ALL:ALL to the hosts.allow file but that did not work either.
Finally I assume that since I can FTP locally that the ftp service is up and
running.
Can someone please tell me whether or not I have missed something? It would
be greatly appreciated. I did read one email thread that mentioned RH 7.1
was "locked down" by default. Does anyone know what that means. I assumed
that it meant the default firewall configuration was "high", is that correct
and when I select "no firewall" through the setup program doesn't that
override the "lock down"?

Thanks in advance.
