I just learned some pertinent information while reading "Managing NFS 
and NIS":
"Removing the file with rm clears the direcotry entry, but does not free 
the disk space because the process still has the file open."

They do this to remove it:

# cat /dev/null > /file/that/is/open

Just some valuable information should you need it ;o)
