First off, visit http://www.linux-laptop.net/ - they've got reports from all over on success and failure for various models.
Second, with laptops (especially) due to the odd-ball hardware some use, stick with current versions of the common distributions - they'll most likely have the most drivers out of the box. Third, after things get shaken down, you might consider creating a custom kernel with only the devices you actually have. But most of the current distros have only the most critical drivers in the kernel and use modules for everything else, so (except for compiling for your specific chip, vs. a generic 386, 586 or 686) the custom kernel isn't as important as it once was. -----Burton -----Original Message----- From: Potter, Tim [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, July 01, 2003 10:20 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Best Linux Distribution for laptop We're going to be installing Linux on a 500Mhz/128MB Dell laptop for monitoring, forensics, scanning, security assessments, etc. What is the best distribution for this?
