I will be building an FAQ for the Security-Basics mailing list over the
coming month or so. I would appreciate comments and opinions on what you
think should be included in the first version of the FAQ.
For now I will pull some messages that have been posted here in the past
two months, giving credit where it's due to the original poster. Possible
topics that have been recently discussed and could be included:
- wireless security concerns & tools
- how to securely dispose of old media
- problems with biometrics
- securing Windows shares (samba/cifs)
- Firewall/DMZ design alternatives
- common scanning tools
- file level encryption tools
- deploying Microsoft patches to desktops
This is far from an exhaustive list. Your collective input would help
shape the FAQ. I also have the ability to tag the bottom of each post to
the list with a one-line pointer to the Web-based FAQ once it's created.
I'm hoping the FAQ will become a good resource for new subscribers to
Security-Basics as well as all visitors to the SecurityFocus website.
