you have a special button for that in the DansGuardian page, just before3. The default set of rules should include LAN->FW tcp 8444 for the dans guardian log message.
the last one that says restart Dansguardian.
I will separated the last two buttons in order to make them more visible
maybe ...
Why not make it automatic if dansguardian is selected?
BTW I still have a problem with the /etc/shorewall/policy file... All I did during the config was to look at the rules page. I cancled out of it.
