Location Reading, Berkshire UK Salary �45,000 Start Date September/October 2003 Reports to Regional COO & Group CTO The Role Regional implementation and management of the technical operational requirements of the business strategy. This includes, but may not be limited to, pre-sales technical consulting, the planning and execution of pilots, customer and partner installations, customer and partner training, project management, on-site technical support and maintenance, electronic and telephonic support, and internal IT support and training. Growth in operational activity will require that the technical operations unit scales accordingly, with the planning and management of this expansion co-ordinated by the Tech Ops Mgr. He/she will need to make decision as to the most robust, effective and cost-efficient manner to scale the unit, quite possibly using a combination of organic and contract or outsource growth.Ultimately it is the responsibility of the Tech Ops Mgr to ensure that the technical resources, software, hardware and operational, are in place in order to achieve the business goals. Responsibilities Pre-sales technical support for regional business development and sales structure. Includes qualification of sales opportunities, pre-sales technical planning and proposals, pilot planning and execution. Installation and support for pilots, clients and partners. Will need to liase with the regional Sales manager to identify, prioritise and ensure completeness of all installation and support requests.Establish and manage a regional support structure. This may include the establishment of a Call Centre.Implement a CRM solution that will provide information for technical management and support of the regional installed client base.Manage and scale any regional Storage Platforms. Scope of Work The position is to be the technical reference point for the region. He/she will work closely with a number of people in order to ensure the smooth rollout and maintenance of any technology deployed in that region. The incumbent will need to co-ordinate his/her responsibilities to ensure that staff are properly trained, equipped and deployed, potential customers are correctly qualified, pilots are fully scoped and implemented, customers correctly serviced, and that any technology deployed in the region is correctly scaled, upgraded and maintained. The position is both a hands on and management role and it is expected that the incumbent, although fully supported by a team structure, will perform much of this work him/herself as well as be able to scale and manage a team to grow with the regional operations. Primary points of contact will be the Technical Director, CTO, Network Administrator, Product Manager, plus the regional technical staff, New Business Development, Sales and Marketing and sales staff. Skills It is expected that the position will ultimately form part of the regional management structure. The Tech Ops Mgr will require a combination of the skills required by those reporting to him, in addition to the management and commercial experience required to fill what is an operational management rather than a pure technical role. These technical skills are nonetheless extremely important as it is likely that the incumbent will both manage and perform many if not all of the duties expected of his unit, particularly while the business is growing and scaling is constrained by budget. The skill expected of the Tech Ops manager and/or his/her subordinates include client facing pre-sales tech, project management, network and OS expertise and fault-finding skills. ------------------------------------------------------------
