There are many free web hosting sites that now offer free sub-domains.

Let me point out one thing, though. Those long URL's that Geocities
used to force upon us are a thing of the past. If you sign up now with
Yahoo for a new Geocities web site, your URL is just a simple domain
and directory:
http://www.geocities.com/your_username
If you presently have a Yahoo mail account, you can sign up for free
Geocities web hosting services with the same username. Yahoo did away
with all that "community" nonsense when it bought Geocities. For that
we salute them. :-)
