Pedro.. I do this kinda work on a daily basis with some rudimentary equipment and the 
standard Windows 98 (or higher) Sound Recorder.  We can talk off-list if you want. I 
can walk you through these steps if you have a portable stereo, a 5 ft double male 
plug (Radio Shack or similar store), and Windows 98 Sound Recorder (Win 95 may have it 
too, but I have never used it, so I don't know. I went straight from 3.1 to 98 to 
2000.)

I have some original recordings that WERE on 8track, then to cassette tape, then to 
WAV, then to MP1 to 3, and the 
quality is the exact same. 

I have a client this morning at 10 am but will be available after 11:15. Or we can set 
up a time later.
