Hello. This is the note I sent directly to Pedro off-list (Hope he doesn't mind!)
"Hiya Pedro,
My AIM (http://www.aim.com) name is peaceNsolace or I have a personal www chat room
located at http://homepage.altavista.com/WhoisKBryan/index.html
(page takes a minute or two to load--graphic intensive) Talk to you soon, either
mode. KBryan aka Peace"
I have a few little programs I use together to create/modify the samples I record. One
is a simple MP3 compressor called MP3Compresssor, another called CD-DA Extractor,
another called a Gowave Mpeg DJ Program (don't remember where I got it..sorry) and the
other app is actually IN Windows' Sound Recorder under PROPERTIES FOR SOUND where you
can adjust the Mhz to reveal radio quality, stereo, voice, etc. It took me a while to
get it right, and I still have to tamper a smidge sometimes. But I start with the male
to male and Sound Recorder and a portable boom box. Plug one end of the male into the
SOUND IN portion of the sound card plug the other male into the headphone/mic of the
boom box (and they SWORE it couldn't be done!) Adjust volume on the boom box only.
Keep system volume as set. I record in high quality MONO which usually takes away the
hissing, then I convert to high quality wav (32/22 mono is best recording) them I can
convert to MP1 layer or up to MP3 layer, whichever I choose depending on need. If you
don't have the MP1, 2, or 3 codec, then I can send that to you as well as any of the
small apps I just described. Here's an excellent info website that can help with the
codecs and more info on "fiddling" to make it great.

Talk to ya later!

Peace,
I'd be interested in your method also. Do you get rid of the high frequency noise by
choosing a codec with low bandwidth (for example a slow encoding, or one designed for
"voice" recording?)? I have been toying with recording some of my old collection of
78's and scratched up
jazz LP's to digital.
