Maybe you can pick up a cue cat at your local radio shack...there are supposedly 
"hacks" to the software that let it read normal barcodes also -- I'd skim slashdot.com 
for stuff like that

Laura, I turned the barcode into all different fonts, but kept the spacing as 
it as. I even turned it backwards, and upside down, etc. No luck if it were, 
in fact, a series of "i's" and "1's" and "L's" to spell out a sentence.

To the alpha IT people on the list: Can I print this code out and scan it at 
a store to get a reading??
