Just to throw in my two cents here - In light of recent reports of
programs like Quake and Realplayer and such that covertly collect
personal info and send it through the net, it seems that you can't
trust much anymore...
I found a shareware app called Zonealarm that monitors your net
connection, and if a program tries to use the net, it puts that program
on pause and asks you if you want to allow it, and if so, can it do so
in the future.
This seems to be a good way to guard against data harvesting by
programs... :)
