Memorial for Croatia war victims in Belgrade Darko Popović ~2 minutes _____ A memorial service was held in central Belgrade’s St Mark’s church on Monday in memory of Serb victims of the Croatian police and military operation in Western Slavonia in 1995. Croatian Serbs present at the service for the dead in operation Flash also laid wreaths at a monument to Serb dead in the wars of the 1990s in the former Yugoslavia in nearby Tasmajdan park. Veritas Documentation Center chief Savo Strbac said that no one has been held accountable for the Serbs killed in the Western Slavonia area of Croatia. That area was part of the breakaway Serb republic in Croatia in the first half of the 1990s after Zagreb declared independence from Yugoslavia. Spokespeople for the Association of the families of the missing and dead said that Western Slavonia was under UN protection but that the peacekeepers withdrew to their bases before the Croatian military and police operation. Estimates said that some 15,000 Serb civilians fled the area. The Veritas center claims to have evidence of 283 Serbs killed, 162 of who have been found while the rest are still missing. The Hague Tribunal drafted an indictment of the late Croatian President Franjo Tudjman for war crimes committed in the operation. -- http:www.antic.org --- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "SERBIAN NEWS NETWORK" group.
