I would go ahead and throw it away unless you park over dry grass or leaves.
I'm on my third Nissan and two of them had shielding fall off. I have also had
some removed because it was rattling. I used to have a 91 XE that had the
catalytic converter shield fly off into the weeds on the highway. I didn't
have any idea what that bouncing piece of metal was until I stopped to pick it
up. :)
