An 8" sub in a custom enclosure would give the sound you want and still give
you plenty of space in the trunk.

This depends on which model you have I think.

I think this would be enough for a sub/amp and enclosure that would suit
your needs. Have you gone into a car audio store? If not I would recommend
it. They could tell you whether or not your head unit has preamp outputs
and give you a good idea on what is possible for what amount of money. They
will try and sell you stuff that is their job but just be cautious and don't
let your money burn a hole inyour pocket and you will will get what you want
