The point is that a properly done supercharger will have less power than a
properly done turbo system and end up costing about the same. The only
advantage a supercharger will have is a more liniear powerband, the
advantages of which are largly negated by a properly sized turbo.

I have been researching the type of power adder that I want to use for some
time now. And While I still have not made a final decision, I can say that
the SC is the farthest down on the list! I researched this option first and
found it to be very expensive. First off the SC, dependant on type, is
rather expensive in and of itself, and since a centrifugal is the only
"feasable" option, I priced those. On the the average they are about $1,200-
$1,800 just for the SC. Granted it's the main component, many other parts
are needed to make it work. Brackets to hold the SC, pulley integration
(since it's a belt driven device), fuel management, and lines to cool the
SC if it is not a self-contained unit. A reputable race shop nearby laughed
when I mentioned the number of $3500 for a custom SC. His exact words were
"do a turbo". I am not saying it cannott be done for less, but it will not
factor out to be $1,00o less than any turbo setup. To be fair on pricing
you should price out a "custom D-I-Y" turbo, you will find that the parts
(even w/ a custom manifold) for the turbo will cost about as much as the
parts for the SC. This is including the fuel management aspects as well.
The SC VS. Turbo is a war that will never end, fought by our big block
ancestors and is still being fought by the new breed of import racers! The
bottom line is that both have their advantages, and it just comes down to
your application! So lets all wish ST-3 well in his journey to a custom SC
and try and give some pointers. After all the aftermarket is all about
options! And it would rule to have the choice. Most people sneared at the
avalibility and cost of the current HS kit, so it's only normal that they
do it to the SC idea! Granted many replied with fact, others replied with
opinion and their idea of which is better! So ST good luck, and I hope
everything works out! I love to see people pushing the envelope and trying
things that haven't been done before!
