In '95, when my car came out, the difference in price between the SE &
SE-R was about $3k. If you want to zip ahead to Y2K, now that $3k will
put me well over what a stock SE-R can put out. If you're going to
compare the 2 cars, it's only fair that you compare the cost of them.

If your SE purchase was a "planned" move, the $3k (that is saved upon
purchase over the 2.0L "big brother") can be used to not only make the
SE faster, but handle just as good (or maybe even better). Plus, you can
also factor in the difference of how much interest you would be saving
by not financing the extra $3k (can you say JDM 2.0L GTi-R?).

Hell, what does a full engine swap go for? If you had enough patience,
and a dealer's licence, you could comb all the auto auctions for a
wrecked SE-R. Maybe even pick up a good one for a couple of thousand
dollars, do the work yourself, and have about $1k to mod the new SR20
with. Wrecked cars with good engines are not uncommon.

The only reason why I present the argument like this is b/c my Si buddy
and I were talking of both having faster cars in the future. He's opting
for a hybrid Honda, where I am looking for an all-around better
performance car (GT-S, AWD DSM, 2.5 RS).

His argument is that with the same amount of money spent (price of the
car included), it will cost me more money to go just as fast as he will
be modding/hybrid'ing his Si. Although I don't agree with him, his logic
is valid.

However, checking KBB.com will tell you that now the difference in the
cost of the '95 SE VS. SE-R is only about $600. If I were shopping for
the two cars now, I would be a fool to not buy the SE-R. 2 extra
payments VS. a whole year's worth of payments is a big difference.

If I had it to do all over again, I'd still have my Honda, but it would
be the show car and my 200 SX would be my daily driver.

In a year, I will be starting all over again (car will be paid off)
....instead the 200 SX will be the show car and I will have an even
better (read: more fun) daily driver :-) Either way, I would have still
bought my 200. It's going to make a better show car anyways :-)
