Yes, you are wrong. I don't know the exact amount, but the engine is
supposed to hold under 4 quarts, maybe as little as 3.25 as you said, but
somewhere between 3 and 4. You also don't want to overfill the crankcase, so
just put in 3.25 and watch your oil level closely.
