I'm open to suggestions on this one. I agree people need to use the
archives much more than they are currently used now, but I try to make them
reasonably obvious. There's a link off the mailing list homepage, they are
mentioned in the list welcome message, and until recently they were
mentioned at the bottom of every 20th message (where the advertisements are
located now). Plus I mention them myself every couple weeks or
so. Without beating people over the head I'm not sure how to make them any
more obvious. On a related note, from all the general chatter and inane
questions it's painfully obvious people are not reading the list welcome
message or the list FAQ.

The sad part is... I agree with you. This list has really degenerated in
recent months. Has anyone noticed how few of the "old-timers" are
left? Most have long since bailed out because of all the general
BS. While this may seem rather harsh, something needs to change in order
for this mailing list to survive. I honestly don't see the point in
continuing with the list if we can't maintain our subscriber base. It's
like a revolving door, two or three people subscribe every day and they
usually are gone within 24 hours. That doesn't say much for the list when
a new subscriber quits in disgust after just one day. The list reached a
peak of 490 subscribers back in July. Want to guess where it is now? It's
only hovering around 450. The list has actually been DROPPING in membership.
This isn't a bulletin board, folks. This is a mailing list that is
supposed to be highly focused. Meaning, no OFF-TOPIC messages. This
includes discussing Hondas, street racing (I straddle the line on this one,
but all too often street racing threads turn into stupid off topic
discussions), any other automobile manufacturer, chatting with someone else
you know, etc., etc.. Any discussion about Sentras, 200SXs, etc. is fine
within reason, but there is a fine line between what is acceptable and what
is not. People need to understand this distinction and be more aware of
the other 450 people reading the messages they write.

It is difficult to compare this list with the SE-R list simply because of
the difference in demographics. As Mike Kojima has pointed out the SE-R
list has, on average, older, more experienced subscribers. People with
more money and education. I'm not saying we're a bunch of drooling idiots,
but in general we are younger. Many people are in high school or college,
or college age. But that also doesn't excuse the stupid behavior that is
all too common. People need to use more respect and be a little more
professional. Most of us wouldn't walk into a crowded room where an
organized discussion is taking place and start blathering away. Please
don't do that here either. I'm not saying don't post messages, in fact I
would encourage you to speak up, but simply stay on topic and we will all
get along much better. :)
And, BTW, for those of you that do like discussing what you did last
weekend, how much you hate civics, etc., etc. THERE IS A CHAT LIST! No one
is making use of it. I didn't set up a chat list for the hell of it, it
was intended to keep this garbage off the main list. For more information

I agree. This is a step that would require a HUGE time commitment. I'm

I'm hesitant to do this as well. I'm not ready to give up on this mailing
list yet. If an invite-only mailing list were set up this one would
certainly die off very quickly.
