I am surprised that no one has really gone off on this topic--it is pretty
clear that an N/A intercooler is pretty silly. Assuming there is no source
of heat in your intake (like, say, a turbo) than intercooling the intake
charge couldn't possibly help anything. Think about it--the very best an
intercooler can do is lower the intake charges's temp to outside ambient
temp. So, if your filter is getting cold air anyway (like a CAI) than
sticking an intercooler in the intake tract is just a restriction--a very
expensive one at that. Now, if for some reason, you absolutely couldn't put
a CAI on your car, than the intercooler idea might possibly have some merit,
but only if the air under the hood was very, very hot--I think you would
have to see a very large drop in intake charge temp before you would
overcome the power loss presented by the intercooler's restriction to
airflow. Furthermore, if you have the ingenuity and money to put an
intercooler on an NA car, then you can probably rig up a proper CAI anyway.
