I have heard about the chain jump and that can make the car impossible to
start due to the valves opening at different times and such. The tensioner
may be bad and if there is too much chain slop, it can jump. A good thing to
listen for is when you start it when it is warmed up. You will here a
grinding sound right away and that is the chain smacking off the front cover.
I had this problem on my D21 hardbody KA24E. At 90,000 it was time for a
new chain and tensioner. My uncle said they used a plastic backer on the
guides and they wore out. Neve recalled though. Bastards. I cracked the
front cover and I needed a new one also.
