We have been using this as a sepsis biomarker in Ob population....it just
indicates a mere inflammatory response...has been found to be elevated in
all conditions that triggers SIRS (pancreatitis etc)!
Further, we didn't find to be very useful with regards to decide antibiotic
de-escalation....felt clinical criteria were superior than Procal (personal
experience)!
Also, the utility value depends upon the methodology by which this assay is
done in lab.
