Definition of severe sepsis is one or more organ failures - elevated lactate 
being one possibility- remains greater than or equal to 2.0.
Lactate greater than or equal 4.0 is one definition of septic shock- along with 
persistent hypotension despite 30mg/kg fluid bolus

Severe sepsis in the revised guidelines is 4mmol/L.   Has anyone developed 
protocol levels for istat or venous blood gas results as an equivalent?
