Seems like a reasonable comparison.

We ought to be at least as nimble as the big hitters and free ourselves from
the shackles of JDK 1.3 in our next release. It is time to say goodbye to
JDK 1.3 and hello to JDK 1.4.

How we take advantage of the extra facilities is an issue once we decide to
make the break.

Fair enough point.
