So you are suggesting to do both? What is the benefit of doing both?

take a release branch and commit both on that branch only. together
they cover more use cases than either alone.

I think it was pointed out, that Noels fixes broke some serious design
considerations.

I think the 2 parties should come together and work on a new solution, which
is suitable for everyone.

but IMO it's expedient to patch the release branch so that a release
can be cut without the bug
