Hi Ioan,
Glad to hear from you!
MAILBOX-45 (Design and Implement Mailbox with NoSQL Storage) is very
close to MAILBOX-44 (Design and implement a distributed mailbox using
Hadoop) (I forgot to put MAILBOX-44 in the list).
I proposed MAILBOX-44 which is a direct implementation of the Mailbox
API on the hadoop framework.
I you look at http://s.apache.org/z2 uml scheme, the project will be
concretized with a mailbox-hdfs project implementing mailbox-api and
using mailbox-library
You can get the sources in
http://james.apache.org/mailbox/source-code.html and build them with
help of http://james.apache.org/server/3/dev-build.html (these are
instructions for the server project, but it will work out for mailbox).
Robert proposed MAILBOX-45 which is a more generic REST (http) based
mailbox (I will let Robert further comment...).
Whatever you could be interessed in, we at James will be happy to
further discuss it with you.
Tks,
- Eric
PS: I sent the mail to server-dev@james.apache.org so other james devs
can also read/comment :)

Hello,
I am a student in first year master program in Business Administration
in Romania and I am interested in participating at Google Summer of
Code for the project: Design and Implement Mailbox with NoSQL Storage
(https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/MAILBOX-45). I am a Debian user
and on track on becoming a Debian maintainer for the Java Team.
I develop Java based software and I have used Apache libraries very
often. I am very pleased with how they simplify things. I wish to
learn more about them and to contribute to the project.
Besides coding I can package and support Apache software in Debian.
I have read ticket (the link above ) the following pages:
http://wiki.apache.org/james/GSOC2011
http://community.apache.org/gsoc.html
https://issues.apache.org/jira/secure/IssueNavigator.jspa?requestId=12315354
Besides applying for the project on google-melange.com, are there any
other steps involved?
Can you please review my application proposal draft and give me some
feedback?
It's not done yet, because I found just found out about the project.
