Hi,

I just realized MS no longer adds Message-ID headers to outgoing Outlook
2003 email and expects the POP3/SMTP server to insert them instead. The best
detail I could find is here:

http://www.tek-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=961988&page=1

So, I did some tests with James and confirmed no Message-ID is being put in
by Outlook, but still got some weird results.

When sending email:

1. [EMAIL PROTECTED] -> [EMAIL PROTECTED] = no Message-ID

2. [EMAIL PROTECTED] -> [EMAIL PROTECTED] = no Message-ID

3. [EMAIL PROTECTED] -> [EMAIL PROTECTED] = Message-ID:
    <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

(I think iomsql02 means their server inserted this - I don't know what they
are running)

4. [EMAIL PROTECTED] -> [EMAIL PROTECTED] = Message-ID:
    <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

5. [EMAIL PROTECTED] -> [EMAIL PROTECTED] = Message-ID:
    <long-gmail.com-id>

6. [EMAIL PROTECTED] -> [EMAIL PROTECTED] = Message-ID:
    <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

So...I see a two weird things going on...

A) James adds Message-IDs to /incoming/ email that doesn't have it (see 4 &
6).

B) James does /not/ add Message-IDs to /outgoing/ email that doesn't have it
(1 & 2).

This seems backwards to me...shouldn't James only worry about adding
Message-IDs that are going out of it?

Am I missing something? Does this sound like the intended behavior?

Thanks,
Stephen
