a spam honeypot is usually used as a base for bayessian filtering or
other filtering techniques, so that you can filter away spam before they
reach your real inbox.
I would guess that companies like google and such uses a couple of spam
honeypots so that we the real users don't have to get as much spam...
but if you ask google, they would probably say that they don't use it,
just to lure the spammers even more :-)

TRUE... and James has a fair capability of appearing one as such in its
default configuration. You only gotta setup your ALL email consumer
matcher and draw results.
