The Oracle thin driver is a JDBC type 4 driver - it's 100% Java and speaks
to the Oracle server via a vendor specific protocol. The OCI driver uses
native methods to talk to the Oracle client software (which must present on
each client) which then uses SQL*Net to talk to the server. I believe this
is a JDBC type 2 driver. Both are available for free download from
Oracle's site (www.oracle.com) and come on the CD with most Oracle
products.

Bob
