Take a look at http://www.openlinksw.com (OpenLink Software) -
they have JDBC, UDBC and ODBC multitier drivers that basically
allow a client located anywhere to access any supported data source
located elsewhere.
Yes, that includes Linux or  other unices C plus any-os Java clients
querying any remote ODBC data source sitting on Windows machines.
