Hello!
Latest version is at www.apache.org. On my win98 machine
I'm running 64meg of ram. When using it to test sevlets
I usually have IE5, Netscape, VisualPage and VisualAge for Java
running and it responds wonderfully. So on an NT machine I
would excpect the same or better performance.
One note about installation, it is simpler than the
documentation would lead you to believe. Download
the latest version of apache web server, install
that by running the setup program. Test it by
just typing in localhost in your browser. It
should come up and tell you it installed fine.
Then go and get the JServe installation and
install that. It will do all the config
updates in Apache for you. You will need
to restart Apache. Then type in "localhost/servlet/HelloWorldServlet".
(I believe this is the test servlet that came with it, if not
look in the servlet directory of the Apache Jserve directory and
try that.) That should be it, initially, you will have to
get in and add repository settings in the conf/zone.properties file
if you have other/extra classpaths for your servlets to run.
If needed I will be glad to send you my config files for both
Apache and Apache Jserv, as examples.
