 Thanks a lot of ur advise. i succeeded in getting images. iam soooooo
happy. almost out of control. i was trying it from past 1 week . today i
added the images in publichtml dir. it worked out .
   Abt the display in particular frame it was the problem of IE. i
reinstalled it. it worked out fine .

The first two problem:

1) i think you should place your images near an index.html file.
If you try http://localhost:8080/
it apears a page ( i don't know wich one it is web Server dependent )
but i guess in is somewhere in a public_html directory. Place there the
images
folder and in the servlet use:
<body background=\"http://localhost:8080/images/backgnd.jpg \">
2) You have to use a target in the link like this:
<a href="http://localhost:8080/servletMyServlet?param1=2"
target="mainframename">
or if the servlet is invoked from a form place the target in the form
tag.
