If you are doing cc processing, then I assume some type of session tracking.
Have the response you send to the client generate a reply back to indicate success.
Something along the lines of an onLoad=somefunction where somefunction does a
get on a completion servlet using sessionID.

This tells you there was no disconnect. Then you can use the timeout to send the
email
if the completion servlet was not called to close the session.
