Hi all
Michael answser has to be moderated.
All depends on the deployment target : Intranet ? Extranet ? Internet.
On an Intranet (and Extranet under certain conditions) applets are
much "thiner" than Windows applications and provide more interactivity
than HTML/JavaScript.
On Internet small applets can be use for specific functionality such
as price tickers for example and highly interactive things that
you couldn't do well with HTML/JavaScript.
Success of applets deployment depends also on developers skills :
Java applets can't be program like C++ applications (Corel syndrom) :
there's a lot of constraints to respect : speed, lightness, portability,
firewalls, ...
(all those things that require experience...)
Sincerely
JM

No, because applets are not thin clients. They require a VM, which may not
even exist on the client side. They also require downloading classes.
