I did a quick search for "servlet FAQ" on google, and came up with 12000+
hits. These were the top 4 valid hits to FAQ's:
New Atlanta - Servlet FAQ
www.newatlanta.com/servlets/servlet-faq.html
Servlet FAQ (looked pretty good)
www.dmoz.org/Computers/Programming/Languages/Java/Runtime_Environments/Servl
ets/faq.html
Servlet FAQ (In Japanese)
www02.so-net.ne.jp/~komori/doc/java/Servlet-FAQ.html
Servlets Taverne (work in progress, good start)
wwwusers.imaginet.fr/~lse/JSS/textes/servfaq.htm
They cover about 1/4 to 1/2 the questions on this group over the last few
months. (including ones like: why use servlets?) I'm sure there are a
dozen more. I consider it basic netequitte to at least attempt to check for
an answer. Furthermore, for very basic posts, I tend to reply to the
sender, and point them to resources, rather than denounce their post on the
group. Furthermore, there's a link to the archives after every mail here,
and that covers a lot of the recent questions (though I have to admit that
having used them myself, sometimes its hard to narrow down to exactly what
you want).
I don't think this group should be just for advanced questions (there's
another group for that) But the level of "noise" questions is somewhat
discouraging at times. Sometimes its days or even weeks before I get a
chance to sit down and really catch up.
Hope the links help a bit. I've noticed the quality improve a bit just
since this thread started. Maybe we should keep at it! :o)

In fact, I believe this has happened already. I've been on this list
a couple of years, and I feel the composition of it has really changed
over the last say 6-8 months. Many of the more
experienced/knowledgable posters now post infrequently or not at all.
And it isn't just a matter of finding stimulating discussions, it's a
matter of when the signal-to-noise ratio gets so low that it's not
useful/practical/worthwhile to stay on the list. This is a relatively
high volume list, and saying "just delete those messages" isn't a real
solution. If you end up just deleting 90% of the messages on a list,
what's the point of staying on it?
