I think his point is to build a mailing list server, akin to
mailman or majordomo or listserv, in Java. I've been somewhat curious
about this topic myself the last several months, though I've been too
distracted with $work to do any serious looking into it. A very
cursory googal/altavista search revealed that:

     a) there is way too much namespace collision to easily search for
mailing list servers implemented in java (how many times do you
think the words "java" and "server" and "mailing list" occur in
close proximity to each other on the web? :-().

     and

     b) there doesn't appear to be a definitive, well-known mailing
     list server implemented in java.

I want some specific things out of a list server and I'd like to
do them in java for various reasons, but I don't particularly want to
take on the challenge of implementing the whole thing. So I'd prefer
to use somebody else's implementation of your typical standard mailing
list server and build from there.

My next step, if I don't find one and I have enough idle time to
get around to it, is to dissect a well-respected mailing list server
(maybe mailman) and reimplement it in java. That's generally what I'd
suggest Chirag do, in addition to getting the various RFCs for related
topics (one post on a gnus.org list suggests RFC 2369 would be
applicable).

Hm, looks like somebody started working on a server, CaptainDomo,
at http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Vista/2850/, but it may
still be pretty sketchy. Have to download it and tear it apart.
