There needs to be a separation of layers and servlets/JSPs work
together to achieve that separation. In addition, it's not a matter of
one versus the other, IMO, there is too much html in servlets and too
much Java code in JSPs.
Have you read anything on MVC -Model I, II, or III?
A quick google search will yield the results you're seeking.
