Thank you, Jesper. I had set up the FQDN, but we traced the error to a key not
being properly built within our SQL DEV environment. Once that was corrected,
the issue resolved.

However, I do find this to be a very good article. Thank you for your help.

Matthew

Hi. Sorry about the late reply, have you used FQDN when using setup? Then there
is a bug in where you need to manually update the webservice settings in IIS.

Hi Jesper,

To take SSL out of the equation, we opted for http: and non-SSL. However, if
we have to put Trusted Domain CA certs on it to resolve the issue, we can do
that.

Thanks,

Matthew

Hi Matthew
I have seen this error before when running with selfsigned SSL certificates on
the WFC host, i solved it by using a private CA issued cert.

Hi Casey,

Thanks for the reply. We will have about 4,500 "potential" users through the
portal, but I doubt we will see half that capacity. As for concurrent use, I
doubt we will have 500 users on the portal at any given time.

We are having a connection issue, and Microsoft Premier Support is hard-pressed
to find the reason. Everything looks good to them, but they cannot find a way
around it yet.

[cid:[email protected]]

We can connect to both servers from a browser, each server can see each other,
but the error persists. We have even taken down the firewalls in the TEST
environment, and installed from scratch. We are using SharePoint Server 2010
SP1, and all prereq's are fulfilled.

This worked in a one-server environment, but have opted for two servers for
future growth.

Thanks again!

Matthew

Hi Matthew,

I've only ever implemented a 1 server solution for our environment. We also
did non-SSL since we only hit it internally and I didn't want to add any
complexity. How many users are you talking about with regard to capacity
needs? We have about 1,300 employees and no issues running off of 1 VM.

Subject: [servman] Are you using the Service Manager Portal in a Two Server

Hello,

We are building a two-server environment for our Service Manager 2012 portal
environment. We have a few questions and are hoping to find the answers here.

1) Microsoft recommends using a two-server environment. Have any of you
successfully accomplished this?

2) We are planning on installing it as non-SSL, since it will be for
internal use only. Anything to note here?

3) Can we get away with a one-server environment? If so, how many users
would be the maximum amount?

The two portal virtual servers are Windows Server 2008 R2 Datacenter Service
Pack 1 with 2 processors and 8 GB RAM. They will be added to an existing
four-server Service Manager 2012 SP1 environment running on virtual servers.

Thanks for any advice!

Matthew
