Good Afternoon Listers (-5 GMT),
Though my personal preference is GMT (I guess that hints a bit at my age)
and I use ZULU time when required in piloting an aircraft, GMT, UT, UTC and
ZULU time all work fine for me.
As a sidebar, I , like many others around the world, have found that what
really annoys me (no, make that *really, really offends* me) is reading at
each and every Windows installation, re-installtion or upgrade that
Microsoft has deemed the location of its' corporate headquarters in Redmond,
Washngton (-8 GMT, UT, UTC, ZULU) as the defacto center of the wired and
commercial world. Such narrow-minded arrogance.
In any case, when one day the existence of extraterrestrial sentient
intelligence is confirmed (a day I believe many SETI@home participants,
myself included, somehow instictively know in our hearts and minds will
come) our point-of-reference system will likely be forever redefined.
>From the vantage point of an unfathomable, perhaps boundless cosmos teaming
with abundant lifeforms and civilizations, Earth's time-limited individuals,
institutions and entities (along with their individual and collective egos)
will look and be mighty insignificant in the universal scheme of things.
I don't know about you, but I know that I'm looking forward to that day and
will consider myself fortunate indeed if it comes during my lifetime.
