A couple of thing you need to understand regarding ISDN ...
1-ISDN is digital from end to end - there is no modem
2-An ISDN "BRI" (basic rate interface) consists of 2 64k "Bearer" channels
and a
16k "Data" Channel. The "Data" Channel is used main for call
progress and
dialing.
3-The 2 Bearer Channels each carry an independent 64k data stream.
4-To use the 2 bearer channels as a single 128k channel require both ends
of the line use some form of "Bonding" (also called Inverse
Multiplexing or IMUX )
This is normally a hardware function but could be done in software
if the processor
power is available.
I work with ISDN for "Commercial Video Conferencing Systems" and it can be
a real
pain to get installed and working right (most installers from the telco
can't spell ISDN yet
alone know anything about it.) And it's not cheap, and in a lot of areas
you pay by the
minute like a cell phone. Most of the prices I've seen for basic DSL
service are about the
same as ISDN but have equal or better bandwidth and a (nearly) continuous
connection.
Personally I would go cable modem or DSL for a higher bandwidth connection
to the Internet.
And I would seriously consider cable modems and DSL for point to point
higher bandwidth
connections within an area cover by the service. If you can't get a fixed
IP try a dynamic
DNS service like TZO.com so you can find the other end.
