BACKGROUND:

I've got a my STN router (a 486/33) running behind my cable
modem. My cable modem uses an internal modem and phone line
for traffic up to the net, and the cable line for traffic
coming down from the net. If there is no traffic for 20
minutes or so, the cable modem will "hang up" its phone line.
If the phone is in this "on hook" state, and someone pings my
cable modem, or the external IP of my STN box, it will cause
the cable modem to dial out.

QUESTION:

In the middle of the night, I heard the cable modem dial out,
and connect. I didn't leave any programs running that would
cause the modem to dial out. If someone were attempting to
hack into my system, is there any info that STN would be able
     to provide (IP address, etc.)?

     http://gw:8080/Server>Status> ConnectLog & SystemLog don't
     provide any interesting details.

THANKS:

     ...as always...

     ...steve...
