Any help much appreciated, trying > to figure what i need to build, don't want any surprises > halfway through the build. > > For the sake of the archives (please correct me if I missed something): The slider cam heads have oil squirter slots in the cam caps. If you take a cap off, you'll see them. These slots in the cap direct a little of the oil from the cam journals and spray it on the slider follower. If you put a roller cam in one of those older heads (with roller followers of course), the cam will get a little more lube and cooling from the extra oil. If you were to put a slider cam in a late head without the oil squirters in the cam caps, the cam will wear very quickly since all it will get is splash lubrication from the oil coming out of the cam journals. So...Roller cam in older slider head = OK. Slider cam in newer roller head = not good. Also, while I'm at it: Roller followers with roller cams and slider followers with slider cams. Don't mix 'em. I made that mistake several years ago when I didn't know any better and I wiped a perfectly good MP slider cam with roller followers. I was very sad. I'll have to see if I still have the pics of the carnage. Hope that helps!
