I believe I have made a critical error in my build. I selected forged
pistons for a little more detonation tolerance and in doing so, left a little
more
room in the piston to wall clearance. Now I believe that when I add boost the
knock detection is picking up piston slap and retarding the timing. This
occurs in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear WOT pulls and the result is misfiring or
sputtering. When I do a slow forth or fifth gear WOT pull and the piston
speed
rises a little slower it pulls all the way to 18+ lbs and no sputtering.
Is there a way to monitor the knock sensor without a scope?
The build is a 89 TII with 87 GLHS electronics, pressure activated 5 th and
6 th injector and stock ignition timing. Any advice is always appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike
