Neither the Buick V6 nor the Syclone/Typhoon V6 are 60-degree engines,
both being based upon 90-degree V8 engines (The Buick 215ci aluminum V8, and
the Chevy small block V8). All Buick V6s have been "even-fire" since 1977.
Both are good, strong engines, unlike the 60-degree Chevy V6 used in
Cavaliers and such.
I just thought you all "needed to know".

The 1989 Turbo Trans Am did use the GN engine, and final assembly was done
at PAS, who built the Syclones/Typhoons, leading to the misconception that
the trucks also used the Buick mill.
Syclone/Typhoon engine is entirely different from the GN engine. 90 degree
block vs 60 degree, even fire/odd fire, liquid intercooler vs. air/air, etc.
Syclone engines were quicker in as-delivered trim, but GNs can be tweaked
more before breaking expensive stuff.
Frankly, having owned, and using at various times for daily driving, a
Syclone, a GLHS, and now a Typhoon, the GLHS is much more fun and in a
crappier package, which should have put it at the top position on that list.
Somewhere in my old magazines, I have an article about somebody who (with
extensive use of sawzall and welder) put a junkyard Cadillac 500 CID engine
into a Chevette with a junkyard F150 rear axle, and had an 11 second car for
$2300, If somebody put that into production, thats about the only thing I
could think of to bump the Shelby off the top.

I wonder why the turbo Buicks didn't make the list. Those were sweet
engines (IMO, for the same reason mentioned above), but the actual
package was crap, though I still like the shape of those GM G-bodies
even today. Perhaps the Cyclone/Typhoon covers that engine...

The motor from the Buick GN was sort of represented in the list in the body
of the syclone.
The syclone 4.3 was loosely based on the 3.8 from the buick.
